What yoga is: a practice, a journey, an art, a science, a companion, an opportunity for transformation, a spiritual pursuit, a path of true and authentic connection, a road trip to freedom.
What yoga is not: a party trick, a fad, a competition, a performance art.
The postures used in hatha yoga are meant to be used as tools to union your body, mind, and spirit. They are the trail blazes leading you home to yourself. There is no one way that these poses are supposed to look on the outside. These postures are meant to free your body, mind, and spirit -- not to box them in.
If you find that you are forcing your body into a pose, or comparing your pose to someone else's, or judging the way you look in the pose or how the pose looks on you, please pause and remember that yoga is not a performance art.
And what an enormous relief that is.
